Yaso Tangbao Midtown East

OPENED577 DAYS AGO

Shanghainese street food concept Yaso Tangbao is opening their first Manhattan location.

The restaurant will offer the nuanced Shanghainese street food flavors in classic dumplings, noodle and soup dishes, as well as a location-exclusive breakfast menu – plus, from 11am on Wednesday, January 24, they’re offering 100 free orders of soup dumplings to the first 100 people in line.

The Spot:

The interior of the restaurant is welcoming and warmly lit, with wooden tables and benches and exposed brickwork, brightened up by artwork and flowers.

The Food:

Tangbao – soup dumplings – are the headliners here, with traditional flavors (blue crab and pork etc) served alongside more experimental versions like chicken with activated charcoal (they’re black, and therefore look cool). Other street food favorites include sweet & sour pork ribs, chicken shao mai (sticky rice dumplings), soy garlic noodles and you tiao (fried dough).

The brand new breakfast menu includes hot dumpling soup, scallion pancake ‘tacos’ with egg, congee with pork rousong, and more you tiao, this time in the form of crullers.

The Drinks:

There’s a simple drinks menu, with FIJI water, ginger ale and fruit sodas.

In a Nutshell:

Founders and childhood friends Chi Zhang, Kevin Gu, and Chongwu Du, along with their chef Zongxing Tu, are clearly passionate about their food and their flavors, and we’re excited to see the new breakfast menu spicing up their third location. It’s hard to go wrong with dumplings, too – and you can get them free, if you’re punctual on Wednesday.
