Upstate Getaway: Rivertown Lodge
In our series of Upstate Getaways, we’re covering the best hotels with new things to do and upcoming events, inspiring your next weekend trip away from the hustle and bustle of New York City. This week, we’re taking a peak at Hudson’s Rivertown Lodge.
With the hotel being just two hours away from New York City – not to mention one mile from Hudson’s station – traveling to Rivertown Lodge couldn’t be any easier. Following suit with your route, the hotel boasts a simple design and an easy vibe, instantly drowning out the constant noise of life in the city.
Though it hasn’t been an easy journey for The Rivertown Lodge – the property has been transformed from a movie theater to a motel, before arriving at its current artful state – with a little help from New York design studio Workstead. The rooms are small yet cozy, complete with custom-made beds and warm brass light fixtures; the light-filled lobby is fitted with wood burning stoves and comfortable sofas, but the best place to be is Rivertown’s in-house Tavern.
Combining Mediterranean cuisine with flavors of North Africa and Morocco, chef Garbiele Gulielmetti – formerly of the beloved upstate bakery Bonfiglio & Bread – has launched a new spring menu and it’s well worth the wait. Dishes are ever inventive, including shrimp pancake with fermented broccolini; crudité served with Mayan pumpkin seed dip and smoked clam escabeche with puffed rice crackers and sweet potato. And when you wake up the next day, enjoy a beautiful Dutch baby pancake with whipped ricotta for breakfast, or Ndjuya soft scramble on Bonfiglio Bread – or better yet, order both.
