Just Opened Getaways: Hotel Tivoli
The secret to surviving such a big and exhausting city is to escape it once in a while – swapping tiny apartments and constant noise for some well-earned luxury is absolutely necessary to stay sane. And after all, distance makes the heart grow fonder. In our series of Just Opened Getaways, we’re covering the hottest new destinations for your weekend escapes and mini vacations.
Situated in the historic town of Tivoli – one of the hidden gems of the Hudson Valley – Hotel Tivoli contrasts its century-old surroundings with a contemporary design. With painters Brice and Helen Marden owning the property, Hotel Tivoli boasts an eclectic collection of furniture, lighting and pieces of art.
Each room carries its own unique design, though you’ll always encounter crisp white walls, tons of natural light and colorful furnishings, making you feel as if you’re visiting a modern art museum and hotel at once. Think bright red chairs, yellow rugs and luxuriously soft pink banquettes – not to mention the curated selection of art adorning the walls.
The owners’ modern approach to the hotel continues at their farm-to-table restaurant – The Corner – serving locally sourced foods in a minimalistic space. Focusing on seasonal ingredients and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, chef Devon Gilroy recently rolled out his new spring menu, with dishes such as dry aged duck with fennel; fried oysters with pickled carrots, and Paisley farm greens with radishes. Make sure to save room for a sweet treat (or two) – how does one choose between dark chocolate torte with pistachios and vanilla panna cotta with blueberries?
