Tim Ho Wan

OPENED1095 DAYS AGO

The Hong Kong-based dim sum restaurant famously known as the cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world, Tim Ho Wan, has come to New York.

Currently the spot is in soft opening face before it opens officially in January so expect serious queues as hungry New Yorkers gather to grab some of their signature steamed buns and dumplings – for as little as $5!

Due to some awesome dim sum openings in the East Village, this part of town is beginning to give Chinatown a run for its money in terms of offerings for this speciality cuisine. The  most recently opened Carma East and Drunken Dumpling are just a couple that spring to mind as having opened this year in this part of town.

At their East Village outpost (the chain has five locations in Hong Kong with additional spots across Asia and Australia) expect to see signature favorites like their famous baked BBQ buns, pan-fried turnip cakes and steamed rice rolls. Tim Ho Wan’s New York site also has some exclusives like custard-filled French toast and deep-fried vegetable spring rolls.

Founded by chef Mak Kwai-Pui, Tim Ho Wan first gained its star at its original location in Mongkok, Hong Kong in 2010. Since expanding across Southeast Asia and Australia, the brand has gained in popularity leading to its inevitable launch in the U.S market.

If you’re looking for somewhere to impress some visiting friends or relatives without going broke, Tim Ho Wan is your new go-to spot that’s sure to please. The official open for Tim Ho Wan’s NYC outpost is January 18th but, as of today, they are in soft opening and operating with limited hours.

Operating hours for the soft opening period will be 11am-3pm and 5pm-10pm daily.
