The Most Exciting NYC Restaurants Opening Soon: Gjelina
New York has a lot up her sleeve – quietly welcoming new restaurants and eyeing cool events – so we’re bringing you a new series of the city’s secrets. Yes, we want you to know what’s going on in the city, even before it’s set in stone. Each week we will give you a sneak peek into New York’s future plans – the ones we’re really excited about. This week it’s the newest project from the team behind West Coast hotspots Gjelina and Gjusta.
New York Gjelina (official name to be announced)
The forthcoming arrival of LA hotspot Gjelina – and a little bit of Gjusta – has been a long time coming. Not just because of the Californian cuisine and heavenly pastries, but because the rumors of an East Coast outpost started back in 2016. We’re still patiently waiting for the official date, but it looks like chef/owner Travis Lett and partners Fran Camaj and Shelley Armistead will be opening the 167-seat restaurant in Noho this spring – as if we needed any more reason to be excited for a change of season.
The menu is expected to be similar to Gjelina in LA, featuring wood-fired pizzas with mushrooms, housemade chorizo and grilled radicchio, vegetable-centric dishes (using produce from their new farm upstate) and salads. Rumor has it the spot will also have a bakery, offering pastries and baked goods to go. If the selection of treats is anything like Gjusta in Venice, baklava croissants will be our new breakfast staple.
When will it open? Spring 2018.
