The Anthony

OPENED1102 DAYS AGO

Greenwich Village has just welcomed a new upscale restaurant, lounge and nightlife spot with The Anthony. Named after a New York icon Anthony Lispenard Bleecker, the new spot pays homage to the Village’s rich history in the post-World War II era – a time when Bohemian culture was on the rise.

The recent restaurant openings in Greenwich Village have shown us the kind of culinary talent there is in this part of town alone – Yves and Urban Vegan Kitchen being the most recent – but The Anthony is going a step further by not only offering amazing fare but creating an awesome spot to party the night away in as well so you’ll never have to leave!

The Anthony is serving a globally-inspired menu with bistro fare. Enjoy snacks like crispy duck & waffles (with smoked duck fat maple glaze) banh mi steamed buns (with char siu pork belly, liver mousse and pickled vegetables) and beef & bone toast (with thinly sliced rare beef, whipped bone marrow and red wine shallots). Larger options of meat and seafood are also on offer like a Maine lobster fondre and a Tomahawk chop for two. And, to let you in on a little secret, there will also be a ‘Tavern Burger’ (from one of the owner’s other spots, Church Street) available off-the-menu. A late night menu at The Anthony will be offered after 12am on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with a range of light bites and bar snacks to help soak up all those cocktails you’ll be consuming. Speaking of which, those cocktails have been created by cocktail expert Ruben Bansie (who has consulted on bar and nightlife venues like St. Mazie Bar & Supper Club and Skylight in Vietnam). Handcrafted options like ‘The Matador’ (with mezcal, lime, habanero honey and angostura bitters) and ‘Suzy’s Secret’ (with fresh raspberry, cucumber and champagne) are on offer in addition to beer and wine.

The Anthony‘s 2,000 square foot, bi-level space carries a Bohemian aesthetic and includes a main dining room, seating up to 60 and littered with ruby-toned booths as well as dark green walls with gold painted accents. A large scale mural greets diners as they enter created by local artist Charlie Doves, depicting the 1940’s erotic novel ‘Greenwich Village Girl’. A second level mezzanine seats up to 30 guests and is accented with a fireplace filled with dimly-lit candles – perfect for an intimate date spot. In the coming weeks, The Anthony will also be launching weekend brunch parties as well as more late-night programming.
