Tacombi Empire State Building

OPENED937 DAYS AGO

A fifth site for Tacombi taqueria has opened in the Empire State Building.

The new site will have an on-site tortilleria and open kitchen, and the same focus on Mexican taco culture and heritage that founder Dario Wolos has brought to his other locations.

The Spot:

Inspired by the grand art deco taquerias of Mexico, the new 200-seater site is a wide, bright space, with hand-painted tiles, teal walls and red banquettes. The on-side Vista Hermosa tortilleria and open kitchen offer an intimate view into the cooking process, and the wide central bar offers extra seating.

The Food:

Tacombi has a focus on locally and ethically sourced ingredients, with their in-house tortillas and salsas made fresh every day. They serve classic Mexican tacos, with familiar flavors like carnitas, Baja fish, chorizo, and black bean & sweet potato. They also do quesadillas and campechanas (street tacos served on flour tortillas with beans and chorizo), and traditional sides like guacamole and rice and beans.

The Drinks:

Tacombi sells its own brand of aguas frescas, juices and sodas, called Lupita – you’ll find fresh flavors like watermelon, hibiscus and pineapple – as well as its own coffee, La Antigua. There are beer and wines, too, and a short cocktail list.

In a Nutshell:

If it ain’t broke… we’re pleased to see Tacombi expanding, and we love their focus on creating everything in-house and respecting the cultural heritage of their food. The new site so far doesn’t seem very different from its sisters, but we’ve got our fingers crossed for a bit more development soon.
