Roman and Williams’ Guild

OPENED609 DAYS AGO

Roman and Williams’ Guild is a furniture store, café and restaurant from the design team of the same name, open now in Manhattan.

As their first physical store, Roman and Williams’ Guild is a haven of French chic, nestled just off bustling Canal Street.

The Spot:

This remarkable converted space (which used to be a bank), is at once impressive and homely. The wooden floorboards, exposed brickwork and sweeping archway framing the café give it a modern, urban feel whilst the flowers (from Emily Thomson Flowers) dotted throughout the rooms keep it rooted in nature and add to the feeling of an oasis in the middle of the metropolis.

The Food:

Chef Marie-Aude Rose serves up some mouth-watering French pastries in La Mercerie café – the brioche was some of the best we’ve ever tasted, and you can also get chouquettes, croissants, cookies and (gluten free!) chocolate cake. There’s a sense that the best is yet to come when their restaurant fully opens in the next couple of weeks.

The Drinks:

There’s a well-stocked bar and the barman will whip you up a classic cocktail or a glass of French wine. The wine choice isn’t huge (two red, two white), but if the brioche and coffee were anything to go by, you can trust these guys when it comes to delivering on taste.

The Damage:

It’s not cheap here – whether you’re buying a $6 tea or a $40,000 bed, you’ll be paying more than you might elsewhere, but you can rest assured both the Red Rooibos and the White Oak bedframe are some of the best in the business.

In a Nutshell:

RW Guild is a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds. The Roman and Williams partnership, with their infallible eye for design and detail, make this place a must-visit. And with the restaurant launch in February, it’s looking like things will only get better. But watch this space – we’ll be first through the door. Just as soon as we can make room in our apartment for that bedframe.
