Recreation

OPENED19 DAYS AGO

Golden Age Hospitality brings a new concept to The Moxy NYC Downtown hotel: Recreation.

While Golden Age Hospitality is known for bars and restaurants like Happiest Hour and Acme, their latest venture is of a different kind. Recreation operates as a co-working space by day, and cocktail bar by night.

Recreation - interior

The Spot:

Ever dreamed of working at Google, where slides and scooters are just a regular part of your office day? Well, Recreation is more or less the same adult playground, fitted with a half-sized basketball court, skee-ball machines and Pacman games. You could even take a power nap on the gigantic Joe DiMaggio glove chair, just before the space swaps coffee for contemporary cocktails.

Recreation - Gaming Area

The Food:

Dishes are guaranteed to cure any hangover or Monday morning blues, offering options like the “everything bagel” flatbread (spread with cream cheese and gravlax), chicken and waffle bites (accompanied by rosemary bacon gravy!), and “Mexican-style” shrimp cocktail with a spicy Bloody Mary dip. There’s also a selection of salads, sandwiches and pastries, but you’re obviously sold on those sinful sauces.

Recreation - Chicken and Waffle Bites

The Drinks:

Drinks are just as fun, such as the wittily named Mellow Yellow (Mezcal, passion fruit, yellow pepper syrup, habanero shrub), the Open All Night Manhattan (bourbon, Ancho Reyes, Vermouth, orange bitters), and a gin-based Busy Bee sweetened with honey and lavender. If you plan on getting some work done the next day, Recreation also serves a nostalgic orange creamsicle to match the whole retro vibe.

Recreation - cocktail

The Damage:

Dishes vary between $11 and $24; cocktails are priced at $15.

In a Nutshell:

They say mixing business with pleasure is a bad idea, but then again, so is eating bacon, and we’ve never listened to that either.
