Reception Bar

OPENED17 DAYS AGO

Reception Bar opens its doors on the Lower East Side.

Brought to you by Korean-American Katie Rue, Reception Bar highlights Korean ingredients in both cocktails and non-alcoholic elixirs.

Reception Bar - Lotus Breeze

The Spot:

Reception Bar is a serene little space, designed in a neutral color palate with plenty of plants (a nod to Korean gardens), while gigantic windows provide tons of natural light (on trend with New York’s all-day destinations). A circular 11-seat bar is the focal point, where beverage director Sergio Dimoff (of The Four Seasons and Soho House) helps execute the Korean-style drinks.

Reception Bar - Dukbokki

The Food:

You’re not really here for the food, but Reception Bar does serve a small selection of snacks such as dukbokki (hot and spicy rice cakes with fish) and gyeongdan (sweet rice cake balls filled with red bean paste).

Reception Bar - Smoky Goji

The Drinks:

Cocktails revolve around Korean spirits like soju and makgeolli (sparkling rice wine), which are then spiked with a whole range of unique ingredients. Besides an obligatory matcha mix, there’s a Smoky Goji with balhyo-infused soju, goji berry honey and oak smoke, or an interesting-sounding Ink concoction made with squid ink and green plum syrup. Reinterpreting traditional home remedies, the non-alcoholic elixirs are made to improve your wellness, ranging from increased concentration to revving up your libido.

Reception Bar - Elixirs

The Damage:

Cocktails are priced at $14; elixirs are $10.

In a Nutshell:

Reception Bar combines tradition with today’s health-focused lifestyle, cleverly balancing strong Korean spirits with spices and herbs that aim to promote your health.
