Positive Pathways (+)

OPENED1040 DAYS AGO

The Mitchell-Innes & Nash gallery have launched an exhibition of works by artist collective GCC called Positive Pathways (+). The exhibition is the GCC group’s first show at the Mitchell-Innes & Nash gallery and their second overall in the United States since they opened “GCC: Achievements in Retrospective” at MoMA PS1 back in 2014.

The Mitchell-Innes & Nash gallery is well known for showcasing emerging and younger artists as well as forging strong relationships with and supporting those that have exhibited with them before. Their most recent exhibition by Jessica Stockholder for example was her third exhibition at the gallery. Positive Pathways (+) is an exhibition that includes installation, wall sculptures and sound to portray the increasing trend of Healthy and Positive Lifestyles gaining momentum currently in the Middle East. Through this, GCC explores an even greater and wider issue in how these lifestyle attitudes are employed and transformed as part of a greater political plan. The work behind Positive Pathways (+) focuses on the ways that the positive energy movement and body healing practitioners have become co-opted by governments in the region. In conjunction with the exhibition, there will be an off-site screening of video works by the collective at Anthology Film Archives on October 15 followed by a Q&A with all eight of the GCC collective members.

The GCC is an artist collective that have strong ties to the Arabian Gulf region of the Middle East. The group was formed in 2013 at Art Dubai and has continued to address the shifting systems of power in the Gulf region and abroad. They have also shown at Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler in Berlin; Project Native Informant in London; The New Museum, Whitney Museum of Art, and MoMA PS1 in New York; Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris; 9th Berlin Biennial; Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE; and Fridericianum in Kassel.
