Mondayoff

OPENED16 DAYS AGO

The quirkily named, Mondayoff, is the latest authentic Thai restaurant to hit Kensington, Brooklyn. Finding good Thai food in the city can be far and few between at times, while there are spots like Sticky Rice or Kuma Inn (albeit a Filipino-Thai restaurant) offer some great options, we’ve yet to get a new competition on the scene, perhaps, until now. The new restaurant is run by Plant Love House – the family-run thai brand that owns LOOK on Washington Avenue and brings another authentic Thai joint to a new stretch of Brooklyn with Mondayoff.

The Spot:

Located in Kensington on a stretch of Coney Island Avenue, Mondayoff can be a longer journey for those based further uptown in the city but, given that the majority of the city’s best Thai food has traditionally been found in Queens, we think this is a step in the right direction.

The Food:

The kitchen is run by Plant Love House’s very own Manadsanan Sutipayakul and their chef, Sureerat Patthana. Patthana comes from Thailand’s Isaac region and ran a noodle shop in the popular coastal city of Pattaya before moving to New York City. The menu features dishes that are currently popular in Thailand like a ‘tom zaab ga-dook moo’ (a spicy tamarind-leaf soup with pork ribs) and a Korat-style chicken thigh wrapped in spices and a panda leaf.

The Drinks:

Mondayoff also offers authentic drinks like Pandan water –  a citrusy sweet Mojito topped with big mint leaves.

In A Nutshell:

For those still struggling to find authentic Thai cuisine in New York City that packs a punch, give Mondayoff a try. The spice levels here are truly authentic too – so don’t get too confident if you don’t want to be sweating through your meal!
