If you are a fan of Chelsea Market and are familiar with mokbar, you will be very excited that they are opening a second location right by Barclays in Brooklyn. Great spot right before a game! Most Korean spots are located in Midtown and from my knowledge not much in the Brooklyn area. With other great places opening in Brooklyn such as Otway and plenty new eats at Gotham Market, there is enough to eat to not have to travel into the city.

The Spot: Chef Choi is killing the game with a great selection of small plates that are an integral component of the Korean drinking culture. There are two entrances for this location with one leading into the bar and high backed booths opposite of the open kitchen. Then there is the entrance on Bergen Street which will lead to the communal tabled dining room with great whimsical comic book style mural of giant chopsticks and an equally large ramen bowl in the colors of the Korean flag, white, red, blue and black.

The Food: mokbar offers great Korean traditional dishes such as “Kalbi Jim” – braised short rib, “Ho’ Cake” – crispy bun with pork belly and “Tteokboki” – classic Korean rice cake dish. They also have great dishes such as a variety of handmade dumplings and ramen which has Choi’s signature combinations of Korean soups with fresh, custom-made ramen with a ray of delicious toppings.

The Drinks: Great selection that pairs well with their small plates.

The Damage: Items start from $4 for kimchi and the most expensive is $24 for any of the jipbap meals.

In a nutshell: Great interior with the contemporary Brooklyn urban rustic feel. I highly recommend coming here if you want traditional Korean food versus the usual Korean BBQ!
