Minigrow Broadway & Minigrow 7th Avenue

OPENED1240 DAYS AGO

The Philadelphia-born fast casual noodle and salad bar opens two new Manhattan locations this December.

The Broadway site opened last week on December 13, and it’s followed this week by another location on 7th Avenue. The noodle and salad vendor opened its first site back in October – it’s from the team behind Honeygrow, but with a more streamlined format to allow for smaller urban spaces.

Honeygrow CEO Justin Rosenberg says, ‘Our goal with minigrow is to continue to focus on what we love to do: to find and cook quality, amazing foods that we’d personally want to eat and that we’d never get tired of.’

The Spot:

Designed by Verona Carpenter Architects, the new spaces are sleek and modern, designed around a Subway-style assembly line ordering format. Each new location, like the Honeygrow spaces, features art by a local artist – the 7th Avenue store has a mural by artist Martha Rich – and reclaimed basketball flooring for warmth (and, we guess, bounce?).

The Food:

Justin Rosenberg and culinary director David Katz created the menu, focusing on ingredients that would complement each other. You choose a base (noodles, veggie noodles, rice or greens), a protein – including dashi-poached salmon, slow-roasted pork shoulder and marinated tofu – assorted flavorful garnishes and toppings, and either a warm sauce or a cold dressing. You can also get pre-made salads, such as their popular chicken jawn.

There’s also locally produced chocolate from Raaka chocolatier, and cookies from David’s Cookies.

The Drink:

Freshly pressed juices developed by Katz are exclusive to Honeygrow and Minigrow locations, in green (apple, spinach, cucumber, lemon, basil), red (watermelon, beet, lemon, raspberry) and orange (orange, carrot, lemon, ginger) flavors.

The Damage:

Prices depend on what you put together here, but most dishes come out between $11 and $13, with juices at $5.99.

In a Nutshell:

Opening two new locations at once is a bold move – especially as they’re not far from each other – but Minigrow is confident in its concept and its pared-back menu and solid flavor choices mean it’s a safer bet than most would be. We’re a fan of the customisable dishes, too.
