‘Merica NYC, a themed restaurant that celebrates the “real America,” has just opened in Lower Manhattan’s East Village.
The restaurant concept comes from owners Zach Neil and Radouane Eljaouhari who also own the hit theme restaurants Beetle House (a Tim Burton-themed bar) which opened earlier this year and Stay Classy (the L.E.S ode to Will Ferrell).
Their new spot, ‘Merica, is dedicated to a subject and what better to honor the good old US than with an eatery full of unhealthy food, clichéd Americana and the possibility of a bar brawl as customers fight about the current state of politics.
The ‘Merica themed menu starts off with a selection of ‘Liberty Bites’ that include ‘The Bottomless Sanders’ (a bottomless portion of sweet potato or regular fries with dips) before moving onto the ‘All American Meals’ section that include a ‘Walmart’ (described as ‘a tribute to America’s favorite store’ and giving no more detail other than it is a dish made from stuff, with more stuff you need and topped with extra stuff).
The ‘Merica burgers are definitely not to be missed with items like the humorously named ‘T-Rump Mexi-Can Burger’ (a cow rump patty with half American and half Mexican cheese separated by a wall of ingredients) and the ‘Hillary Burger’ (a double bacon cheeseburger also known as the 100 calorie lie). Save room for some Presidential face cakes for dessert that come in Obama, Bush, Clinton, Nixon and Lincoln flavors too.
Located at 320 East Sixth Street, the space is covered in red, white and blue as expected for an establishment of this kind and the decor is rife with taxidermy, war memorabilia, rifles and NASCAR. There’s even a TV at the back of the space playing episodes of Walker Texas Ranger on a loop.
