Megu

Megu has just opened a new restaurant in West Side, Manhattan

Throughout the ‘00s and ‘10s, Megu had two NYC locations and was associated with flashy décor, a pan-Asian menu and people with free-wielding expense accounts. Then both restaurants closed and there was a glaring void in the mega-Asian dining temples of Manhattan.

However, we’re happy to report that Megu is back and more ostentatious than ever. A kaleidoscopic-lit staircase welcomes you to this new iteration of the clubby restaurant.

The main room of the restaurant is lit in an array of changing colors and 3D visuals. Once you’re seated in the plush upholstery, you’re ready to go on a culinary excursion through a large variety of seafood, fish and vegetable side dishes.

The food is as bold as its interiors — every dish is highly shareable both with your table and on social media. Crispy Okaki asparagus is served upright on a plank like an edible bouquet, tuna tartare is served in cones with sprinkles and the wagyu beef comes with an adornment of radishes, herbs and mushrooms. The crispy brussels sprouts are not as photogenic, but incredibly delicious nevertheless.

As for the sushi, we enjoyed the Megu roll, which is made with spicy tuna, truffle avocado, crispy potato and kanzuri mayo. If you love fish, the miso-glazed cod is a delicate and delectable must. Cap your meal off with a matcha Lady M cake that’s made up of multiple layers of multiple crepes and you have yourself a great meal.

Megu is the perfect buzzy location to start a night on the town and Top Chef alumnus Frances Tariga-Weshnak has created a versatile menu where everyone will be able to find a dish that suits their palate. There’s a party-esque energy and great cocktails to toast with a group of friends.

Other Asian food options in Manhattan’s West Side include Akashi and Mew Men.
