OPENED583 DAYS AGO

Café, restaurant and event space Maman Nomad has opened its first location above 14th Street.

They will offer stay or to-go breakfast and lunch options, with seated brunch on the weekends.

The Spot:

The space has a similar warm and cozy look to the other sites, with interior design by founders Elisa Marshall and Benjamin Sormonte. It’s got white walls and soft, pretty lighting, with wooden chairs and tables and lots of plantlife. Specific to the new site is a 3D wallpaper installation, a toile espresso machine and custom floral wall sconces. There’s a takeaway window out front if you’re in a hurry, but we recommend going in to take a look. The private events space can hold 50 standing, or 40 seated.

The Food:

Maman’s menu focuses on the favorite childhood recipes, with combined influences from the South of France and the USA. You’ll find salads, quiches, sandwiches and soups at lunch, as well as a large selection of pastries, cakes and desserts – including Maman’s famous Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookie, which Oprah named one of her Favorite Things.

The new location’s menu includes exclusive treats such as white chocolate-dipped croissants in a range of flavors (lavender, matcha, and orange blossom), banana bread with walnuts and chocolate chips, and made-to-order salads. More options such as eggs piperade and tahini cardamom waffles are available at weekend brunch.

Many of the items of the menu are named, such as the Bridget sandwich: bourbon bacon jam, avocado and tomatoes, topped with a fried egg; or the Joelle salad: turmeric quinoa, baby kale, roasted carrots, grapes and oranges, with a balsamic dressing. Our editor is a little disappointed not to find her name on there, though – you couldn’t add a Nathalie sandwich, guys?

The Drinks:

Maman do a range of house-made juices, made fresh every day. These are named, too, like the fresh-sounding Brynne (grapefruit, mint, parsley, cucumber, apple) and Sarah (blood orange, apple, carrot).

The Damage:

Sandwiches are $10–12, with pastries usually around the $3.50 mark and salads $12–13. Brunch dishes are $10–16. Juices are $7.

In a Nutshell:

The beautiful design of this place is reason enough to visit on its own, and we’re pleased to see them branching out into a new location. The menu has interesting flavors and a focus on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, and the pastries look amazing. After all, if it’s good enough for Oprah…
