LEYLA

OPENED200 DAYS AGO

The Upper West Side welcomes a new Mediterranean restaurant: LEYLA.

LEYLA is the latest venture by Huseyin Ozer, who also runs Upper West Side’s beloved Bodrum eatery with a similar focus on Turkish cuisine.

LEYLA - Frekeeh Risotto

The Spot:

Together with business partner Berna Erbilgin Gundogdu, the duo aim to bring a touch of Turkish flair to New York. That means the space resembles a chic neighborhood apartment you wish you could afford, outfitted with golden globes and beautiful, blue velvet chairs, complete with a private room for a more intimate dining experience.

Leyla - Bar

The Food:

The menu focuses mezzes, salads and hearty dishes designed for sharing. Eggplant comes in more ways than one (sun dried and stuffed with pilaf and pine nuts, or wrapped around a salad of charred onions and bell pepper), flatbreads called pides are piled with veggies or rolled into a wrap with minced meat, and colorful, heartwarming spices can be found throughout. For dessert, there’s phyllo dough filled with creamy milk pudding, dotting with bright pink for a sweet bite, or flatbread spread with tahini and honey. Heaven.

LEYLA - Beetroot Carpaccio Salad

The Drinks:

LEYLA serves wines with an emphasis on Turkey, while non-Turkish wines are decidedly modern focusing on biodynamic, sustainable and vegan methods.

The Damage:

Dishes range between $10 and $27.

Leyla - Interior

In a Nutshell:

With a menu that lends itself for a mouthwatering, Mediterranean feast, LEYLA is perfect for getting together with a big group of (hungry) friends.
