La Esquina

OPENED1091 DAYS AGO

La Esquina, a popular taco spot known for drawing celebrity customers in its SoHo spot via its ‘secret’ entrance, has opened an offshoot in Midtown. The Mexican spot which currently has outposts in SoHo off Kenmare Street and Williamsburg on Wythe Avenue.

The Midtown lunch scene doesn’t always have the best spots offering local workers a quick and tasty bite but, this version of La Esquina is aiming at just that market. While other Midtown openings like Eatsa have focused on super-quick service and nutritious offerings, La Esquina offers up a perfect selection of ‘sophisticated’ street food.

La Esquina’s newest outpost serves a smaller selection than the downtown and Williamsburg versions. Expect to see a selection of classics like tacos, quesadillas and tortas in addition to a few other speciality dishes like tortilla soup, salad, elote, and a rice and beans platter.

Despite having a small menu, they still manage to cater to pretty much all palates with a range of options from meaty ones like chicken quesadillas to cauliflower tacos and veggie-loaded butternut squash tortas for the vegetarians. There are even vegan and gluten-free options available too. As well as the food there is a wide range of drinks including aguas frescos, a classic horchata, and Jarritos soda. Other alcoholic options include a micheladas, sangria, and classic or fruity margaritas from just $9.

The setting in the new Midtown outpost, located between Seventh and Eighth avenues has a much more casual setting (and seating) than found at the downtown Brasserie but, given this spot is aimed more at the time-sensitive lunchtime crowd, there’s probably no point.

Midtown has no shortage of great restaurants; for more to do in the neighborhood or the rest of the city, refer to our interactive map of New York’s top new places to eat and drink.
