Jing Fong

OPENED23 DAYS AGO

Jing Fong opened up almost 40 years in Chinatown, NYC.  The restaurant only had 150 seats for over 10 years, before expanding to Elizabeth Street, where it now lives in a 20,000 square foot space with a banquet hall-dining room. This traditional Cantonese restaurant, with an exciting dim sum brunch menu, has now finally expanded to the Upper West Side.

The Spot:

The new space is significantly cozier than the original – 10 times cozier.  The space is modern and allows for guests to experience what traditional Chinese dining is like.  The restaurant is decked out in various ranges of red, with hanging lantern pendants and custom honeycomb-style tile walls.  The intimate space seats 50 inside, including 12 seats at the bar, with 40 additional seats outside.  It will also feature a 10-seat Chefs Counter.

The Food:

The seasoned Chefs from the first Jing Fong location will oversee the menu and food preparation at the second location, ensuring delicious consistency from the Lower East to the Upper West.  Diners can expect to see authentic Cantonese dishes on the menu, with their infamous dim sum being served all day.  These traditional dishes include Peking Pork Chop, Honey Walnut Prawns, and Beef Chow Fun, along with crowd favorites like Chicken and Broccoli, Sweet and Sour Pork, Har Gow, Siu Mai, and BBQ Pork Buns, with new Upper West Side-only offerings, like a Pineapple and Cranberry Bun.  The Chef’s Counter will allow guests to watch the preparation of dim sum before getting to indulge.

The Upper West Side location will also feature a new beverage program, featuring specialty cocktails and a curated assortment of wine and beer unique to the location.

The Damage:

Jing Fong is moderately priced: 3 dumplings will run just under $4, a Fried Dim Sum Platter will cost up to $14.50, while dishes like the Honey Walnut Prawns runs at $22.95.

In a nutshell:

For a more intimate Cantonese dining experience, take your appetite uptown to experience NYC’s most notable Chinese restaurant. Kick off your weekend brunch with dim sum, or dig into the traditional dishes that have been pleasing the crowds of Chinatown for almost 40 years.
