Island Oyster

OPENED806 DAYS AGO

Fans of the ever-popular boat-bar, Grand Banks, will be please to hear that the team behind the insanely popular spot are opening a new project that’s set to be just as popular called Island Oyster. Now that the outdoor drinking scene has hit us and we are revelling in every sun-drenched moment, it’s time to trade in those rooftop bars for some waterside bars and, despite Grand Banks being a favorite, we have had other new openings hitting the waterfront scene like Hudson’s at Pier 81. Plus, the team behind Island Oyster will soon be unveiling another new spot called Pilot in the coming weeks so stay tuned!

The Spot:

Island Oyster is literally on its own island – Governors Island to be exact. The 32,000-square-foot space comes with exceptional views of both rivers – where you can see all of downtown, the harbor and Brooklyn Bridge from one spot. Island Oyster is also the first stand alone restaurant on Governor’s Island.

The Food:

Of course oysters will play a big role at Island Oyster. In fact, Alex and Miles Pincus, who run the restaurant, are supporters of the Billion Oyster Project, a nonprofit organization on the island. The menu is designed by chef, Kerry Heffernan (who also designed the menu at Grand Banks) so you can expect items like Debragga & Spitler burger, a lobster roll and seaweed-salt fries with sage aïoli when the food service launches later this month.

The Drinks:

For now, it’s just about the drinks at Island Oyster and its 100-foot stretch of bar is serving up al-fresco friendly libations including cocktails, wine and beer to customers.

In A Nutshell:

Island Oyster is currently only open for drinks with food service set to come later this month.  This month they’ll also expect to open Pilot, an oyster bar on a historic schooner docked at Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park – stay tuned.
