Indoors at Nowadays

The team behind Nowadays, the popular open-air venue between Bushwick and Ridgewood, has opened Indoors at Nowadays, a renovated warehouse space right next door.

You’ll find dancefloors, board games, food and drink and even education – the venue will host classes by educational lecture group Think Olio.

The Spot:

The venue boasts two soundsystems, carefully created to coordinate with their interior design – one for the dancefloor, and the other, inspired by Japanese ‘listening bars’, for their weekly Planetarium event, where guests listen to music in silence for five hours – we’re intrigued.

Indoors at Nowadays is spacious, designed with muted colours and houseplants for a cosy 70s living room vibe, echoed by the geometric seating in the restaurant area and the ubiquitous fairy lights.

The Food:

Food here is overseen by Henry Rich (Rucola, Metta) and provided by Purslane Catering. On the (largely vegetarian) menu you’ll find sandwiches including falafel, pickled carrot & hummus; fried chicken & Gruyère (hello) and the intriguing White Rhino, containing cauliflower, caper-raisins and red onion.

There are also bowls – Party Promise contains ground lamb, chickpeas and golden beets, Army of One has brown basmati rice, mushrooms and lentils, and Salad Iteration is kale, radish and parmesan. Sides and snacks include curry mayo fries, pita chips and chocolate-dipped pretzels. Hello again.

The Drinks:

There’s a pretty good range of beers here, including Evil Twin IPA, Montauk Red Ale and a Guinness Draft. The wine list is, er, concise – one of each color, plus a prosecco – and they’ve got house spirits. The cocktail list is short too, but a bit more lively, containing a Pink Negroni, an Old Fashioned (Honeycrisp Dub Mix – whatever that is) and a Nitrodays Woke Martini. We’ll get back to you on what exactly makes it woke.

The non-alcoholic options are pretty diverse, too – you can get cold brew, coconut water, kombucha, and some others that are less alliterative but still sound good.

The Damage:

Sandwiches and bowls are $7-10 here, with sides $4, and beer $5-9. Cocktails are a couple dollars more, and wine is all $8/glass. Entry is free, except for after 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 6pm on Sundays, when there’s a cover charge for parties and events.

In a Nutshell:

We’ve missed Nowadays these last few cold months, and a lot of intelligent planning has clearly gone into this multi-use space, so we’re pretty keen to try it out. Also: chocolate-dipped pretzels.
