Harvey at the Williamsburg Hotel

OPENED305 DAYS AGO

Brooklyn’s Williamsburg Hotel has a new restaurant – Harvey, serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

The restaurant has been subject to many delays and some controversy, with chef Adam Leonti leaving the project, but it’s opening its doors now with Kevin Chun at the helm instead.

The Spot:

The underground restaurant features high ceilings, an open kitchen and a huge central bar, with red and blue upholstered furniture and leather banquettes. The main area seats 120, with extra space available at the bar. In February, they’ll open the rooftop lounge, so you can dine outside in warm weather.

The Food:

The breakfast menu is short but sweet, with classics like avocado toast and the full Williamsburg breakfast, plus health-focused dishes like the Market Greens salad and the organic oat & quinoa coconut pudding. All baked goods are supplied by Bushwick’s Brooklyn Bread Lab (say that five times fast), also owned by the hotel.

Head Chef Kevin Chun (Yunnan Kitchen, Soho House) has an American theme to his dinner menu, with an Italian twist: think pizzas featuring cauliflower and harissa, or a butternut squash version of the classic cacio e pepe.

The Drinks:

There’s the usual breakfast fare in the morning, with coffee, juice and a selection of fine teas from Tea Dealers’ Stephen Ramirez. There are also some fancy mineral waters – this is Brooklyn, after all. The bar menu features a selection of signature cocktails.

The Damage:

Nothing’s too expensive here, with most of the breakfast items around $15, teas at $5 and that fancy water at $8. Dinner items won’t set you back more than $30, and afternoon tea is $30 per person.

In a Nutshell:

It’s been a year of ups and downs for the newly-opened Williamsburg Hotel, so we’re glad to see Harvey finally getting off the ground. The simple, tasteful menu has some exciting flavors, and we’re pleased to see locally-made baked goods and a heavy focus on vegetables. Here’s hoping it’s all uphill from here!
