Hart’s, a new restaurant in Bed-Stuy, has just opened with a serious team behind it.

The chef, Nick Perkins, has previously worked as the sous chef at Reynard inside Williamsburg’s Wythe Hotel as well as many other notable spots throughout the city – namely, pretty much everything that has come out of the Andre Tarlow restaurant empire.

Bed-Stuy is fast becoming a new hot spot for eats in Brooklyn but, recent restaurant openings in Williamsburg have overshadowed those in Bed Stuy. Perkins also lives in Bed-Stuy himself, so we’ve no doubt he has a vested interest in making this area and his new spot, Hart’s, a neighbourhood destination.

The menu offers American dishes with Mediterranean influences in the ingredients. Perkins’ focus is on simplicity – ensuring it is elegant all-the-while being easy and accessible. Expect light bites like shishito peppers with yogurt as well as appetisers and entrees like tomato salad with radicchio, clam toast with pancetta, a grass-fed lamb burger and pork milanese.

Teaming up with Perkins is beverage director, Nialls Fallon, who previously owned Maiden Lane in the Financial District and, most recently, helped to open new spot Ops in Bushwick. Fallon has curated a small menu of natural wines and speciality beers as well as cocktails including the Che Figata (with Cynar, vermouth and soda) and a Mosca de la Fruta (with mezcal, lime and orange).

The restaurant’s 750-square-foot-space, complete with an open kitchen and butcher-block communal table was built and designed by Perkins and his brother, Russell. The space is not huge with just 30 seats in the dining room as well as an additional five-seat bar.
