Great Jones Café
Ok, so this one isn’t exactly a brand new opening more a re-opening but one that must be documented nonetheless – Great Jones Café. Just one week after seemingly closing for good, the downtown cajun restaurant has triumphantly risen from the ashes and has resumed its position and is open to the public yet again.
When it was announced that this unassuming spot in the East Village was closing, there was a lot of uproar so, it’s no surprise to hear that it will surely be packed this weekend with revellers making the most of the spot they thought they’d lost. It’s difficult to know whether it really was closing for good or just closed briefly – their website states that “The reports of our demise were greatly exaggerated”. Who knows. At the very least, it’s been great PR for them. After all, you never know what you’ve got until it’s gone..
Choose from items like creole wings or virginia fried oysters before moving onto Louisiana jambalaya with cornbread, Texas beef chilli or roasted chicken with honey pecan glaze. Insanely filling sandwiches like a pulled pork sandwich, or a blackened chicken Po’boy are also featured. There’s also classics like key lime pie or bourbon pecan pie for dessert.
Everything you’d expect from beer to wine and few cocktails thrown in for good measure.
Dishes range from $7.95 to $21.95 for their most expensive item.
In A Nutshell:
If you haven’t been to Great Jones Café and have been wondering what all the fuss was about when it closed, you’re in luck, because it has reopened and now you can see for yourself.
