Gitano Jungle Room NYC

OPENED40 DAYS AGO

Tulum-inspired restaurant and bar Gitano Jungle Room NYC opens in SoHo.

After hitting the city as a sizzling summer pop-up, GITANO Jungle Room NYC has found a permanent home in SoHo’s James Hotel.

The Spot:

Stop searching “cheap flights” on Google and head to the lush, no-passport-needed paradise that is Gitano Jungle Room. Inspired by the Spanish-Colonial architecture of the Yucatan Peninsula, the two-floor oasis is something straight out of your favorite design magazine. Vintage brass chandeliers hang from the ceiling, delicate pink plaster lines the space and wooden tables, perfect for all group sizes, sit amongst countless tropical plants.

The Food:

Chef Mads Refslund (formerly of ACME) and Yvan Lemoine (Bodega Negra) have joined their forces to bring you a menu of Mexican and Mayan-inspired dishes. For snacks and small plates, choose from options like tuna tostada with avocado, radish and sesame, quesadillas with Gouda cheese and black truffle, or honey-glazed lamb ribs with coriander and lime. Large plates are slightly more adventurous, including “pot-roasted” cauliflower (a full head of cauliflower covered with black garlic mole, sitting on top of a cauliflower cream purée) and brook trout cooked in banana leaf. Top off your meal with mini churros con chocolate, and then, make your way upstairs for cocktails with a view.

The Drinks:

In short, you can’t go wrong with a cocktail from Gitano Jungle Room NYC. Created by co-founder and head bartender Jeremy Strawn, the drink menu is made up of tropical beverages with an emphasis on Mexican spirits and seasonal ingredients. A few standouts include “The Garden Rose” (Rosé tequila, St. Germain, lemon, strawberry, and rose water), “Golden God” (a CBD-infused cocktail with Los Vecinos Mezcal, passion fruit, lemon, and yellow chartreuse), and “Double Hot Chocolate” (ancho chiles, chipotle-infused mezcal, and coconut milk dark hot chocolate). If you’re not feeling for a cocktail, Gitano Jungle Room also serves a selection of wine and beer.

The Damage:

In a Nutshell:

Gitano Jungle Room NYC is a must-try, especially if you’re looking for a trendy, group-friendly location. Next time you find yourself looking at $750+ plane tickets, we implore you to make a dinner reservation here instead.
