Sichuan noodle restaurant General Deb’s is now open in Bushwick.

It’s the long-awaited second project from Kevin and Debbie Adey, the team behind Michelin-starred Faro.

The Spot:

The 35-seat space has a black and red color scheme, and a wide pass allows a view of the kitchen from almost the entire restaurant. A neon sign reads Refuel in Chinese characters – don’t mind if we do, thanks.

The Food:

You’ll find the complex flavors and spices of classic Sichuan dishes here, like Dan Dan Mian (egg noodles with minced pork and homemade pickled mustard greens, in a sesame sauce) and pork wontons in chilli oil (made with pork from Autumn’s Harvest Farm in upstate New York).

Other dishes include La Zi Ji – chicken with dried Sichuan chilli peppers – and Niurou Mian, a beef noodle soup with red-cooked cow head, cabbage, scallion and anise-infused broth.

The Drinks:

Cocktails here are by Gabe Veras and have straightforward names – try the Vodka, with beet juice, mint, ginger, lime and, um, vodka. You can also get the Mezcal, with – you know where we’re going with this – mezcal, reposado tequila, luxardo maraschino, grenadine and Sichuan peppercorn.

In a Nutshell:

We expect the ingredients here will be high-quality – Kevin is passionate about animal welfare-approved meats, and sourcing seasonal and organic produce. Faro secured its Michelin star only eighteen months after opening, so these guys know what they’re doing – and you can’t beat a good dan dan noodle.
