Frankie Goes to Bollywood

OPENED69 DAYS AGO

Soho welcomes a new Indian fast-casual restaurant, Frankie Goes to Bollywood.

It’s no secret this city thrives on trendy, healthy-ish fast-casual spots; there’s Dez with Middle Eastern mezze, Inday with balanced bowls and now, Frankie Goes to Bollywood brings a taste of Bombay to Soho.

Frankie Goes to Bollywood - Frankies

The Spot:

A variation of Bombay’s beloved street food, Frankie consists of grilled Indian flatbread filled with spiced fillings and all sorts of goodness. Chef Yasir Chaudhry likes it so much, he decided to open a restaurant dedicated to the Indian wrap, while adding a New York touch. That means the space is fitted with a neon sign, colorful artwork and of course, a retro boom box playing Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

The Food:

The menu follows suit. Instead of sticking to the traditional recipe, Frankie Goes to Bollywood serves flatbreads that are gluten-free, wrapped around healthy takes on Indian classics. Many fillings are vegetarian-friendly (not to mention wittily named), including the Awesome Aloo (cauliflower-potato hash, fried chickpeas, and tamarind chutney); Bangin’ Bharta (eggplant curry, zucchini spirals, cucumber raita); and Positively Palak (creamed spinach curry, cottage cheese, mango pickle). For dessert, look no further than the Bombay Beignets, dusted with cardamom sugar and packed with spiced rice pudding.

The Drinks:

Drinks include India’s Thumbs Up cola, lemonade (get the cumin-scented option), mango lassi (a mix of mangoes, yogurt and cardamom), and housemade chai.

The Damage:

Frankie Goes to Bollywood’s offerings range from $9 to $12.

In a Nutshell:

After working with renowned chefs such as Andrew Carmellini (of Locanda Verde) and Floyd Cardoz (of The Bombay Bread Bar), it’s about time chef Chaudhry started a solo venture.
