Fat Rice

OPENED283 DAYS AGO

Nolita’s Chefs Club welcomes celebrated Chicago restaurant, Fat Rice.

Brought to you by award-winning chef Abe Conlon, the globally-inspired concept Fat Rice resides inside Chefs Club for a two-month period.

The Spot:

Focusing on cuisines of the Portuguese-speaking world and Macau (a former Portuguese colony), Fat Rice marries cooking techniques and vibrant ingredients from Brazil, Africa, India, China, and of course, Portugal. But Fat Rice is ever-evolving, with chef Conlon taking inspiration from his most recent travels around the world. The result is a menu that is undeniably diverse and unique, highlighting global cuisine through a Portuguese lens.

The Food:

The menu features a selection of home-style comfort food dishes, including curried pork dumplings, Hai-pa-sinku (steamed king crab with egg custard and wok-seared wild mushrooms), and lobster with lemon and chilli butter. If you’re looking for your fix of rice (and fat, as per the restaurant’s name), there’s a whole chicken stuffed with sticky rice, Chinese bacon, sausage, and dried scallops. It’s called the Macau-style eight treasure chicken, and it’s set out to be a memorable treat.

The Drinks:

The Fat Rice offers a bar menu with cocktails, but the best part is hidden inside Chefs Club’s private dining room. Transforming into The Ladies’ Room for two months, the speakeasy cocktail bar serves herbaceous drinks with house made spirits – just like at Fat Rice in Chicago. Meet your new friends, Bizarro Jerry (aged avua Cachaça, Guotai Baiju, crème de pêche, and lemon chilli salt) and Ricky Royale (Castell D’Age Cava, cassis, Rittenhouse Rye, and marigold).

The Damage:

Dishes vary between $6 and $16; cocktails cost around $14-$18.

With Abe Conlon winning the James Beard Award for Best Chef (Great Lakes), Fat Rice is one of the most exciting Chefs Club residency to date.
