Emmy Squared East Village

OPENED74 DAYS AGO

New York’s popular pizza spot Emmy Squared expands to the East Village.

Emmy Squared East Village is the first Manhattan location for the Williamsburg-based pizza restaurant – not to be confused with its sister site Emily, which can be found in Clinton Hill and in the West Village. All four restaurants belong to the Pizza Loves Emily family, the kind of family you wish you were a part of.

The Spot:

Brought to you by Emily Hyland and chef/co-owner Matt Hyland, Emmy Squared focuses on Detroit-style pies, which boast a crispy bottom and cheesy crust, topped with a perfectly thick layer of sauce and cheese (you can wipe that drool off your face now). Not only do we consider Emmy Squared as one of the best places to eat in the West Village, Hyland’s pies have been recognized as some of the best in the country. Luckily, Emmy Squared in the East Village is spread across two floors, seating up to 130 pizza-loving New Yorkers and out-of-towners.

The Food:

Emmy Squared in the East Village offers the much-loved pies from the original Williamsburg location, including “The Emmy” with banana peppers, and the “Roni Supreme” with lots of pepperoni, as well as the famous Big Matt burger. Besides these all-time favorites, Emmy Squared in the East Village offers a line-up of new additions like the New Orleans-inspired “Emmyletta” with mortadella and Ezzo pepperoni, and the “Curry Row” with cauliflower and chutneys.

The Drinks:

Emmy Squared serves wittily-named cocktails, including “Papa Don’t Peach” with vodka, lemon and peach, and “#Blessed” with gin, hibiscus, lime and ginger beer. We’re definitely blessed Emmy.

The Damage:

Pizzas cost around $20; sandwiches vary between $16 and $25; cocktails are $14.

In a Nutshell:

While the classic NY slice has always been a must-eat in this city, the couple have managed to make their Detroit-style pizzas a hot destination too. If you can win the hearts – and stomachs – of critical New Yorkers, it’s got to be good.
