A Sneak Peek into Dumbo House
Rooftop season is in full swing, and in this city of extremes, you’ll find everything from casual outdoor spots to members-only clubs. Even if you can’t afford a membership at the new Dumbo House – like the average human being – we want you to be in the know about this exclusive newcomer…
They’ve done it again. The Soho House Group have just opened their latest venture, their third in New York City, and if views are what tickle your fancy, then get ready to be rolling around in the aisles. Dumbo House, located just off Brooklyn Bridge Park at 55 Water Street, has all the usual amenities we have become accustomed to (including a pool on the roof, just like at their outpost in the Meatpacking District), but really what sets this venue apart, is the outdoor terrace and bar that points deliberately and directly at New York’s iconic bridges.
Inside the club, the team has continued with its winning strategy of making the common areas look and feel more like a home, rather than a restaurant – while taking inspiration from the location. Located in the original Empire Stores building, Dumbo House has retained the floor to ceiling windows, providing oceans of natural light – not to mention giving you a beautiful view from every seat in the house. Arguably, the décor is slightly more vintage than modern, but that only adds to the homage paid to those artists who moved to the area decades ago.
Similar to the other locations, the menu is broad and feels much like home cooking, yet Dumbo House focuses more on dishes cooked on an open fire. Paired with an Aperol Spritz on the terrace – overlooking the world’s most iconic views – it’s safe to say you could do a lot worse.
