Du’s Donuts and Coffee
Chef Wylie Dufresne, of Wd~50 and the now-closed Alder, has opened his new shop, Du’s Donuts and Coffee, in Williamsburg. The chef, who has worked with famous pastry chef Dominique Ansel, has spent months creating the perfect cake donut recipe, guaranteed to change the way you think about donuts.
Du’s Donuts is located adjacent to The William Vale Hotel in Williamsburg. Growing as one of New York’s most popular neighborhoods, Du’s Donuts’ success is sure to soar: the massive amount of foodie-hipster-Instagrammers will (both literally and figuratively) eat up Du’s Donuts.
The shop itself is naturally brightly lit, thanks to huge, floor-to-ceiling windows. A glass window encases the flavorful donut options, also allowing a view into the kitchen behind the register. The coffee bar and barstools are made entirely of a light, caramel-colored wood, with the exception of the steel countertop. The wood provides and air of warmth, while the windows, steel top, and kitchen view keep it modern.
Chef Dufresne, alongside head baker Colin Kull, has dreamt up 10 delicious and creative cake-donut flavors, like Creamsicle, with orange and hints of passionfruit, Banana Graham, dusted with Golden Grahams, and Malted Coffee, which gets its flavor from Brooklyn Roasting Company. Other flavors include Mexican Hot Chocolate, Grapefruit Chamomile, Pistachio Pink Lemonade, Pomegranate Tahini, and Peanut Butter Yuzu. Two hot, sugared donuts are also available, in Cinnamon Apple and Strawberries and Cream, which gets it’s berry flavor from freeze-dried strawberries. Du’s Donuts will also serve coffee, courtesy of Brooklyn Roasting Company.
In a nutshell:
New York is in no shortage of great donuts, but few other donut shops have flavors that stack up to what Chef Dufresne is creating. And although Du’s Donuts is sure to have NYC’s longest line in town this week (or this month,) these donuts are definitely geared up to be worth the wait.
