Clyde’s

OPENED118 DAYS AGO

The first Trinidadian cocktail bar lands in Williamsburg.

Named after his grandfather and the Caribbean island’s first black Auditor General, Trinidadian part-owner Christopher Leacock – who is known as a DJ, producer and member of Major Lazer, or better yet, a Jillionaire – honors his legacy with Clyde’s. Brooklyn is popular with new concepts and bars lately – the neighborhood welcomed New York’s first sake brewery and taproom not too long ago.

The Spot:

The long narrow bar is colorfully designed, complete with pink and green walls and blue velvet seats, while the wooden accents and string lights create a homely vibe. Reflecting the authenticity of the island through and through in both the décor and the drinks, Clyde’s menu revolves around Caribbean rum and fresh Trinidadian ingredients. And of course, with Leacock’s background as a DJ and producer, the cocktail bar brings in Caribbean DJs every night for some good music.

The Food:

While drinks are the main attraction at this cozy nook, the menu reflects the island’s diverse cuisine, with influences from England to Africa. Think salted cod fish fritters with tamarind sauce, sweet plantains and vegetable chips with Caribbean-style guacamole.

The Drinks:

The real reason you’ll come to Clyde’s – the cocktail menu. Led by Cyllan Hicks, the Trinidadian-inspired cocktails are made with ingredients local to the country. Highlights include the ‘Jean and Dinah’ with Diplomatico Anejo rum and orange liqueur, ‘Night Nurse’ with Bacardi and spiced coffee syrup, and ‘Jamaican Meh Crazy’ with Appleton Estate rum and ginger syrup – who else has a thing for witty cocktail names?

The Damage:

Cocktails cost $14, while the dishes vary between $6 and $15.

In a Nutshell:

With part of Clyde’s earnings going towards hurricane relief efforts, we couldn’t think of a better reason to drink cocktails at this colorful newcomer.
