Circa Brewing Co – a fully functioning brewery and restaurant has arrived in the heart of downtown Brooklyn, giving us a 6000-square foot space to enjoy beer paired with Neapolitan style pizza.


The Spot:

Owned by Gerry Gooney (of the gastropub Putman’s Pub & Cooker in Clinton Hill), Circa Brewing Co is another spot where he shares his love for food and beer in Brooklyn. He has teamed with twin brothers Danny Bruckert (formerly of Sixpoint Brewery) and Luke Bruckert (formerly of Little Oven Pizza in Portland, OR), with Danny being Circa’s head brewer and Luke the head pizza chef as well as chef de cuisine. Bruce Dillon (formerly of Putnam’s) leads the kitchen as executive chef, while Damon Boelte (Of Boerum Hill’s Grand Army) is in charge of creating Circa’s cocktail program.

The food:

The menu revolves around Neapolitan style pizza, made with Miloni di Voghera flour that has been imported from Italy’s Lombardi region. The dough undergoes a two-day “slow-proofing” fermentation process, and baked in a blazing hot wood-fired oven, creating that authentic Neapolitan style pizza. Interesting options include the Big Dipper with truffle béchamel, melted leeks, wild mushrooms, pork shank, gruyere and pork jus dripping sauce or the Choke with marinated artichoke, hazelnut pesto and sweet drop peppers. The love-it-or-hate-it Hawaii style pizza is available with all the works, while the classic pies such as Margherita and Salumi are on the menu too.

The Drinks:

Circa Brewing Co’s brews all beers on-site, giving guests a beer that is both fresh and full of flavor. While offering the classic and historical brews, Circa Brewing Co will also experiment with new techniques and ingredients, creating new flavors of beer to enjoy. In addition to all the beer, Circa’s wines will be sourced locally from Brooklyn Navy Yard’s Rooftop Reds and will be available on tap.

The Damage:

Pizza’s vary between $16 and $22, while almost all the beers cost $7.5.

In a nutshell:

Circa Brewing Co is the latest addition to Brooklyn’s brewery scene, giving us plenty of beer (even the cocktails are infused with beer) and Napoli-style wood-fired pizzas.
