BYGGYZ

OPENED21 DAYS AGO

Dewey Dufresne teased us with the possibility of a sandwich shop at a Feast of San Gennaro pop-up nearly six years ago but finally, the wait is over, and BYGGYZ is here. Yes, we’ve had Make Sandwich and Sandwicherie pop-up in Union Square for our lunch time needs but, BYGGYZ is so much more than that. The guy behind the sandwiches is Wylie Dufresne (the guy that recently opened up a killer donut spot in Williamsburg)’s Dad but, he’s also a restaurateur in his right so, let’s just say that damn good food runs in the family which is a good start.

The Spot:

The sure-to-be-a-hit new spot is open at Clinton Street on the Lower East Side – an area that holds an especially strong place in the Dufresne’s hearts as Dewey was an original partner at 71 Clinton Fresh Food (the restaurant that launched both his son’s career and Clinton Street as a serious foodie destination).

The Food:

The BYGGYBEEF sandwich is the main attraction at BYGGYZ (it’s the same sandwich Dufresne debuted back when he teased us with his not-so-imminent opening) – pomegranate-braised beef with pickled vegetables, melted American cheese, and “Xxollent sauce” (mayo, mustard, and sweet peppers). There’s also the BYGGYPYGGY with pork,  cheddar, pickles, and peppers and the Tuna SOF (for South of France) that comes like a pan bagnat, except the bread is a marble rye from a bakery in the Bronx! Obviously, being a Dufresne attraction, it would be criminal not to get the family involved and Wylie features on the menu with his own ice cream sandwich made with a Wylie Dufresne donut.

The Drinks:

You don’t come here for the drinks.

The Damage:

Prices start from $7.75

In A Nutshell:

Remember last weekend when you had that craving for a really good sandwich and Subway or anything else for that matter just wouldn’t cut it? Wouldn’t just be so nice if you had the sickest sandwich store in town at the front of your mind that day? Well, now you do. Get sued to reading in capital letters that are spelt weirdly and get over to BYGGYZ.
