A new street food concept – Borrachito – joins The Garret in the East Village.

Den Hospitality – the team behind The Garret and The Lately – have set up a taco bar in the back of The Garret East, channeling old school taco truck vibes.

The Spot:

The concept of a taco bar doesn’t mean you are left standing with your tacos though; traditional tables seat twelve people, while there are two seats at the counter. The small setting is both intimate and casual, but guests are welcome to enjoy the Mexican street food from anywhere in the bar.

The Food:

Executive Chef Yuval Ochoa – of Manhattan’s speakeasy restaurant Dinnertable – draws inspiration from his traditional family recipes. Living up to its name, the pork bomb taco is prepared in three different ways, with roasted pork belly, confit pork shoulder and deep fried pork skin. Other taco highlights include New York steak with grilled onions, fried sea bass with pineapple salsa and burrata with fresh corn. While tacos are the main attraction at Borrachito, the menu also features other small bites such as tortilla soup, ceviche and street corn esquites.

The Drinks:

Drinks can be ordered at The Garret East’s bar, including The Dull Boi (Mezcal, Cachaça, fennel, salted honey and lime), Spicy Dead Lady (Mezcal, Aperol, Velvet Falernum and lime), and Donkey Horse (tequila, turmeric, ginger, lime and Scandinavian Fernet).

The Damage:

Borrachito’s tacos cost $4.25; The Garret East’s drinks cost around $14.

With the option to enjoy Borrachito’s Mexican street food in the new space and inside The Garret East, locals of the cocktail bar are likely to be very pleased with the new concept. Who doesn’t want tacos with their go-to cocktail?
