Augustine

OPENED1024 DAYS AGO

Augustine is one of Lower Manhattan’s newest restaurants.

Keith McNally is the master behind some of NYC’s hottest spots (Balthazar, Pastis, Minetta Tavern and Cherche Midi to name a few) and now he has just opened his 14th NYC spot – Augustine. The restaurant is housed inside the newly opened gothic-chic spot, the Beekman Hotel. The hotel’s opening has been highly anticipated as well as the opening of their second restaurant, Tom Colicchio’s new Fowler and Wells which opened just last week.

Augustine’s menu has been curated by co-chefs Shane McBride and Daniel Parilla and focuses on brasserie-style dishes with inventive twists on classics like steak tartare with yozu koshu. Other dishes include a cheese soufflé, petit aïoli of vegetables and seafood, and a selection of rotisserie-cooked meats including a leg of lamb, farm-raised chicken, duck and a variety of steak cuts.

The menu, of course, would not be complete without a burger and this one definitely tops the charts featuring single-malt Scotch braised onions and Comté cheese. Cocktails are provided by legend, Dale DeGroff (who has played a serious role in the classic cocktail revival over the last two decades) and head bartender Francois Morrison and include libations like the Morrison Hotel (with reposado, Falernum and pineapple juice) and the Le Jardin (with Hendrick’s gin, Falernum, creme de pomme and cucumber). Naturally, there is a separate menu dedicated to martinis, too.

Augustine’s 90-seat space has a warm French brasserie feel to it and is decorated in a similar fashion to some of McNally’s previous spots. It comes complete with brown banquettes, vintage mirrors, and Art Nouveau tiled floors and walls.
