Atomix

OPENED238 DAYS AGO

The husband-and-wife team behind Atoboy launch a sister restaurant in NoMad – Korean restaurant Atomix is now open.

Brought to you by chef Junghyun Park and Ellia Park, together with Hand Hospitality, Atomix brings a new style of Korean fine-dining to the city with two different experiences. The first floor welcomes guests for cocktails and snacks at the bar, while the lower level dining room serves a luxe multi-course dinner.

The Spot:

Designed in collaboration with Korean-based firm Studio Writers, Atomix features a sleek design with muted tones and raw materials. Upon entering, you’ll find banquettes sitting opposite a five-seat black bar, setting the intimate tone for the experience downstairs. A staircase with skylights leads to a pre-dinner lounge where you’ll enjoy two snacks, before arriving at Atomix’ main attraction: the chef’s counter…

The Food:

That’s where chef Junghyun Park prepares a Korean multi-course tasting menu, featuring fancy dishes such as langoustine; golden eye snapper; turbot with mungbean sprouts, and wagyu with fermented pear juice. Before each dish is served, you will receive a little hand-written card with information about the menu item, explaining its cultural roots and the chef’s vision.

The Drinks:

Led by Head Sommelier Jhonel Faelnar – formerly of The NoMad – Atomix offers a special mixed beverage pairing menu, as well as wines.

The Damage:

It’s probably best to save Atomix for a special occasion. The multi-course tasting menu costs $175 per person, and that’s without the additional $135 beverage pairing menu.

In a Nutshell:

Given the success of Atoboy and chef Park’s experience at the world’s top restaurants – including Michelin-starred Cutler & Co, The Ledbury and Jungsik dang – expectations were extremely high for the duo’s second restaurant Atomix. The restaurant definitely manages to stand out from other Korean restaurants in New York, offering a unique fine-dining experience – not to mention the hefty price tag.
