aRoqa

OPENED194 DAYS AGO

To get great Indian food Manhattanites typically had to head east (either to the East Village or Jackson Heights) but with the arrival of aRoqa there’s quality Indian cuisine on the west side. This new Chelsea restaurant serves up an elevated dining experience with inventive dishes, creative cocktails and international flavors.

The Spot:

Black and gold décor adorns this sophisticated Chelsea restaurant. There’s a 15-seat bar and banquettes for guests to sip cocktails and dine. For special occasions, there’s also a back room for groups and private parties.

The Food:

The menu at aRoqa brings together Western and Indian flavors. One of the items you definitely need to try is their Habanero Tikka which is a lamb kebab with habanero aioli. It captures the spice typically associated with Latin cooking and marries it with a traditional Indian bite. Vegetarians should beeline to the Katai¬fi Mushrooms which are mushroom-saffron croquettes with goat cheese relish — a luxurious and tangy treat. Another notable menu item is the Kurkuri Bhel, which is made with crispy lotus stem, avocado, tomatillos, harimirch (green chile) emulsion and tamarind chutney.

The Drinks:

Head Mixologist Stephen Thomas came up with a really original cocktail menu that utilizes uncommon ingredients such as balsamic vinegar, vegetables like swiss chard, spices from saffron to peppercorns, and wine reductions. Try their cocktail Shadowplay which is made with Agave de Cortes Mezcal Joven, clementine, cactus water, turmeric, ginger, and lime. It’s a spicy yet refreshing sip to cap off a hot summer night.

The Damage:

Appetizers run from $10 to $14 while larger shared plates cost anywhere between $18 and $26. The menu and pricing make it easy to share dinner family style.

In a Nutshell:

aRoqa serves delicious Indian food with an international spin. Head there if you want to have a flavorful dining experience with great cocktails and a sexy ambiance.
