Alla Pala Pizza & Enoteca
Eataly introduces a new concept: Alla Pala Pizza & Enoteca – now open at Eataly in the Flatiron District.
It’s no secret that New York loves a quick slice on the go, but Alla Pala Pizza & Enoteca brings a different experience to the city, offering an interactive learning experience on regional Italian wines paired with Roman-style pizza.
The Spot:
Taking inspiration from Italy’s enotecas – often referred to as little wine libraries – wine-specialists are on hand to help with the perfect wine-and-pizza-pairing, based on your personal taste. The space – created by Eataly’s internal design team – features a modern design, with high-top tables and a counter displaying the selection of “pizza alla pala.”
The Food:
Contrasting wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, pizza alla pala is made on a wooden “pala” and baked in an electric oven, resulting in a crispy crust with a soft and airy interior. Besides classic options such as margherita, Alla Pala Pizza & Enoteca serves rotating flavors such as Fiore di Zucchina (zucchini flower), Capricciosa (prosciutto, mozzarella and artichokes) and Salsiccia (sweet Italian sausage with peppers).
The Drinks:
Selected by Eataly’s wine experts, Alla Pala Pizza & Enoteca offers both Nothern and Southern Italian wines, including white, red, rosé, and sparkling spumanti wines.
The Damage:
A slice of pizza costs around $5-10; wines by the bottle vary between $19 and $149.
In a Nutshell:
With Alla Pala Pizza & Enoteca offering a unique learning experience, having pizza alongside wines is absolutely necessary to educate ourselves on a fine Italian tradition.
