2nd Floor

OPENED21 DAYS AGO

There’s a certain charm to being transported to another era when dining out – and, thanks to the recent opening of 2nd Floor, the Upper East Side has another spot that achieves that. While not as obvious in decade to the likes of other bars in the area – hello, Sugar East and Ethyl’s2nd Floor channels old school cool to create a cosy atmosphere and beautiful setting. Presented by the team behind 2nd Ave Deli, the bar offers insanely creative cocktails and bites inspired by the downstairs Jewish restaurant.

The Spot

Hidden above the 2nd Ave Deli, 2nd Floor is a comfortable Upper East Side hideaway. With an entrance only marked outside by a neon sign, it combines old school elements with new in an attempt to familiarise younger crowds with the iconic family restaurant. The reclaimed wood floors, pressed-tin ceiling, leather banquettes, and brass cocktail bar together create a glamorous vintage atmosphere, embellished by Yiddish theatre posters from days gone by.

The Food

Paying homage to the downstairs restaurant, 2nd Floor’s food menu is filled with modern twists on Jewish deli classics, overseen by chef David Teyf. Not your typical bar food, it includes offerings like birch smoked tongue sliders, pastrami devilled eggs, and stuffed Helzel (hand sewed stuffed chicken skin).

The Drinks

While the food here is nothing to be sniffed at, the real star of the show is the drinks menu. Crafted by bar director Jason Jeffords III, the menu features a number of drafts and kosher Israeli wines, as well as a very creative cocktail selection. With standouts including Man-O-Manischewitz (gin, mulled Manischewitz, lemon, cinnamon), Japanese Sunrise (tequila, aperol, yuzu, mandarin, grapefruit, rosemary), Kanpai Hawaii (Japanese whiskey, Venezuelan rum, pineapple rum, macadamia, coconut, absinthe), and Blood & Sour (Kentucky bourbon, almond, vanilla, blood orange, citrus), you’ll have plenty of options to choose from when toasting l’chaim.

The Damage

Cocktails are $14, with bites ranging between $8-12 and small plates hovering around the $15 mark.

In A Nutshell

With a beautiful location and impressively creative cocktails, 2nd Floor is the pastrami to the rye of a legendary Upper East Side haunt. Find us there nursing a drink or three!
