Fifty

OPENED1242 DAYS AGO

A 27-year-old restauranteur is behind Fifty, a new restaurant that just opened in the West Village.  Alex Kingman started off as a server at the popular French spot, Tartine before heading to business school at New York University with a dream of opening his own space.

Kingman is partnering with executive chef Luis Jaramillo (formerly of Blue Water Grill) who has developed a ‘New American’ menu with some Latin additions focused around the flavours of his hometown of Ecuador, all the while using seasonal and local ingredients. Dishes include Mediterranean Octopus (with cilantro, potato, peppers and olives), Tomato Braised Goat Ribs (with beer tomato, black rice and avocado) and a Stout Marinated Roasted Chicken (with asparagus, mint oregano sauce). There is also a section dedicated to Crudo with items like Scallop Ceviche (with lime, vanilla, gooseberry and crispy rice) and Tuna Crudo Nikkei (with quinoa, avocado, scallions, tamarind and sesame oil).

A cocktail programme is headed up by ex Bathtub Gin’s, Darnell Holguin, and also uses seasonal ingredients to create libations like Summer in Italy (with juniper berry infused Aperol, Aranciata and Prosecco), a Market G&T (with Botanist gin, cucumber, green chartreuse, lemon tonic and fresh market herbs) and a Catcher in the Rye (with Woodford Rye, lime, pineapple, Creme de Cacao, Punt e Mes and ginger). A range of global and accessible wines are on offer too and have been chosen to compliment the menu.

Fifty‘s space retains many features of the restaurants that came before it, including the white terrazzo floor, old industrial steel casements and large leather banquettes. A wood-framed bar lines the room whilst large windows look out onto the street.
