Butler

OPENED317 DAYS AGO

Butler has arrived in Brooklyn, and it’s one of Williamsburg’s best new coffee shops.

This part of Brooklyn has its fair share of cafes. The most recent opening of Walter’s, for example, and the upscale bakery by famed chef Claus Meyer, Meyers Bageri, are all welcome additions to the scene – so what could another hurt?

Open seven days a week, Butler is the perfect spot to grab a coffee for your commute or spend a Saturday or Sunday morning enjoying a sensationally crafted pastry by resident chef Ryan Butler.

The team is made up co-founders Rod Coligado and Hugo Murray, veterans of the industry, who specialize in logistics and hospitality and thirdly Ryan Butler, the guy with his name above the door. After earning his Michelin star at Piora, Ryan takes pride in translating flavors and techniques of the fine dining world into casual café fare.

The food menu is made up of around fifteen items which rotate through the seasons and availability of ingredients. There’s a spectrum of both savory and sweet items to choose from with contemporary twists on dishes like ‘herb & chili scones’ or the ‘falafel egg,’ an experimental take on the classic scotch egg.

Time of day is factored into the menu at Butler, with a not-too-heavy selection of pastries available during the earlier hours before a daily transition around 11:30am through to more substantial lunch options.

For drinks, Butler is home to Intelligentsia coffee. Popular on the West Coast and in its home city of Chicago, the fine brew was once harder to locate in New York City. But not anymore.

The guys are already hinting at the possibility of other ventures to come like a pizzeria and a wine bar. If the ‘original’ Butler is anything to judge these future plans by then we’re rather excited for what’s to come.

In the city that never sleeps, it’s not too difficult to find a decent coffee shop. Along with Butler, we’d recommend trying out Merriweather or Bohaus the next time you need a pick-me-up.
