Akashi

OPENED1159 DAYS AGO

Akashi, serving high-end Japanese cuisine, is one of the West Side’s top new restaurants.

And we do mean “high-end.” Experienced chef Yoichi Akashi is exclusively serving a 20-course Omakase tasting for $200+ per person. The menu features only the finest ingredients and changes daily, using only the best fish sourced from both the U.S and Japanese coasts.

Chef Akashi has an impressive resume too with over 25 years of experience in Japanese cookery and having worked at both Sushi Yasuda and Sushi Nakazawa previously. The process involved in this particular cuisine is something to behold.

Kappo, which literally means “to cut, boil, stew and fry” requires over a decade of persistent training to hone the intricate techniques, skill and dexterity required. To complement the impressive servings of fish are perfect beverage pairings of sake, wine and beer.

The very intimate 500 square foot restaurant space at Akashi is directly guided by the chef’s vision of Japan. Overall the feel is minimalist with floor-to-ceiling soft bamboo surfaces and century-old stone wall accents that create a great spiritual connection to nature. The space is small and cosy – there are under 20 seats in the main space along with a private dining room which accommodates up to a further 10 people. As a result, the closeness of everything creates a beautiful dynamic between chef and customer as dishes are prepared and consumed in quick succession.

Don’t just turn up. You’ll need a reservation to be seated and these can be made via OpenTable or by calling the restaurant directly. The only day of the week the restaurant is closed is Sunday which makes this an ideal venue for that special after work dinner or entertaining (and seriously impressing) clients.
